Description

BGD 126 Zahn Cups quickly measure the viscosity of liquids such as paint, ink, varnish, syrup, and oil. They follow ASTM D 816, ASTM D 1084, and ASM D 4212 standards. The stainless steel cups feature precise molding, and their orifices are drilled using high-speed CNC machines for accuracy.

Each cup has a 12-inch loop handle, allowing you to dip it into a liquid by hand. A finger-ring at the center of the handle helps you hold the cup vertically during testing. The factory sets the orifice diameters to provide accurate results with NIST-traceable Newtonian oils.

To measure viscosity, fill the Zahn Cup with the liquid and cover the orifice with your finger to stop the flow. Hang the cup vertically by the handle ring while keeping your finger over the orifice. Prepare a digital stopwatch and set it to zero. Release your finger and start the stopwatch immediately. Stop the stopwatch as soon as the liquid flow breaks for the first time. The recorded time shows the liquid’s flow viscosity.

Each Biuged Zahn Cup has a unique coefficient “K” marked on its body. You can calculate the actual viscosity using the formula:

Fact Viscosity = Testing Viscosity × K

Why Choose Zahn Cups?

Zahn Cups are indispensable for quick viscosity checks in paints, inks, and coatings, offering portability and accuracy per ASTM D 4212. Since efflux time directly correlates to kinematic viscosity, these cups provide reliable results with 3% tolerance, calibrated using NIST-traceable oils. For example, Zahn #2 suits low-viscosity varnishes (K=0.32), while #4 handles thicker paints (K=0.59), supporting ASTM D 1084 for adhesives.
