The Impact Penetration Tester evaluates a fabric’s resistance to water penetration under low-impact conditions and helps predict its rainproof performance.
During testing, the operator sprays water from a height of (610 ± 10) mm onto the fabric surface held under controlled tension. An absorbent paper with a known weight sits behind the fabric to collect any penetrating water. After spraying, the operator reweighs the paper to determine how much water passed through.
To prepare the sample, the operator clamps one end to a steel plate using a metal spring clip measuring (152 ± 10) mm in length and weighing (0.45 ± 0.05) kg. The other end is fixed securely to keep the sample flat throughout the test. A white absorbent paper sheet of (152 ± 10) mm × (229 ± 10) mm, accurate to 0.1 g, is placed between the fabric and the test bench.
Next, the operator pours (500 ± 10) mL of water into the tester’s funnel to begin spraying. To ensure accuracy, avoid creating a vortex during pouring.
After spraying stops—about two seconds later—the operator carefully removes the absorbent paper and weighs it immediately to the nearest 0.1 g to calculate the water penetration value.
