Tog Tester for Textile Fabric

The Tog Tester measures thermal resistance of textiles from 1–5 tog, ideal for bedding and clothing. It operates in stable, air-conditioned environments and supports single plate, fixed pressure, and BS 8510 methods. Results display on the built-in LCD and can be exported via USB for easy recording.

  • Measures 1–5 tog accurately.
  • Supports multiple test methods.
  • USB output for easy data export.
Description

The Tog Tester for Textile Fabric is a precision instrument designed to measure the thermal resistance of textiles, ranging from 1 to 5 tog. It is ideal for evaluating insulation properties in fabrics such as bedding and clothing. To ensure accurate readings, users should operate the tester in a stable, air-conditioned environment. Consequently, textile manufacturers and quality labs can rely on it for consistent thermal performance data.

Air Conditioning Requirements

Always use the instrument in an air-conditioned room, because even small short-term temperature fluctuations can influence the tog reading. Therefore, ensure the room temperature remains stable during testing.

Operation.

Place a conditioned test piece on the hotplate. Place the cold plate in the appropriate position for the test being carried out.

  • Single plate method: Away from the instrument.
  • Fixed pressure method: On top of the test piece.
  • BS8510: In the rails 10cm above the hotplate.

The display will initially indicate the instrument temperatures as it approaches equilibrium, then it will indicate the measured tog value. Record the value every 15 minutes until a stable value has been reached over three successive readings.

If you are doing an open test, then you will have previously determined the air tog value for the method, which must be subtracted from the indicated value.

Why Choose the Tog Tester?

The Tog Tester for Textile Fabric is essential for textile manufacturers and labs assessing fabric thermal resistance. Since insulation impacts comfort and energy efficiency, this tester measures tog values from 1 to 5 per BS 8510, ensuring quality in bedding and apparel. For example, it stabilizes at 33°C with <0.02°C variation, providing reliable data after a 2.5-hour test. Its USB connectivity and minimal calibration needs enhance usability, while the compact design suits lab environments. Compliant with ISO 11092 and ASTM D1518 standards, it meets industry benchmarks.
